Cell Renewal in Brain Tissue as Revealed by Autoradiography after H^(3)-Thymidine Injection into Adult Male Mice

Abstract
The detection of cell renewal patterns in the brain cortex from 70 normal adult male mice has been investigated by means of radioautography following the single dose of the. intravenous administration¢¥ of H3-
thymidine C0.8 uc/grm of body weight.
1. The renewal of the cells has been observed in the brain cortex. `
2. Among the cells in the brain cortex, such as neuron and glia cells of the cerebral cortex,- Purkinje cells and the other cells of the cerebellar cortex, only the glial cell has the diurnal cycle in its proliferative
activity.
3. The first division of all the observed cells were completed by 7 hours after the administration of H^(2) thymidine.
4. These results suggest that further studies are necessary.
